A G Meale & Sons Ltd

In 1934 Allen G Meale acquired a single acre of land and set up Newland Nurseries in Stalham, Norfolk selling fresh produce to local people. He had no machinery so worked the land by hand with a few basic gardening tools. He also kept a small number of pigs and chickens.

His hard work and uncompromising attitude to quality and looking after his customers paid off; he was able to steadily expand his business and in 1965 A G Meale became a limited company, A G Meale & Sons Ltd.

In the early 70’s the business moved to a new site at Wayford, Stalham and Mr Meale changed the name to Wayford Nurseries. Today, while Wayford Nurseries is part of our postal address we are more often referred to and known locally as ‘Meales’.

We now have 260 acres producing our own potatoes, asparagus, cabbage, cauliflower, calabrese (broccoli), kale, corn, pumpkins, beet, barley and wheat.

Our greenhouses are based at our retail site at Wayford Nurseries, Stalham which is where our tomatoes produce fruit from March to October. As well as stocking these tomatoes in our Farm Shop we also supply them to Roys of Wroxham, Roys of Bowthorpe, Budgens of Holt and other local shops.

Also grown in our greenhouses are all of our summer bedding, patio & basket plants, pansies, polyanthus, primroses, cyclamen, chrysanthemum and perennials.

We use some of our land to put in scrapes and leave the ground to be rough conservation areas to encourage Waders and a variety of other birds & insects to breed.

In 2015 we started building our own on site coffee shop, it opened on 25th February 2016 and we named it Vera's Coffee Shop after Allen G Meale's wife.

Our coffee shop is open 7 days a week serving breakfast, light bites, lunch, afternoon tea, cakes & savouries. We pride ourselves on using our own grown and local produce where possible. Our coffee shop bakers also make tasty goodies to sell in our Farm Shop for you to enjoy at home.

Our site at Wayford Nurseries, Stalham includes a well stocked Farm Shop, Plant House, Garden Centre & Pick Your Own.

The Farm Shop had a refit in January 2018 and is now bright and modern. We stock our own grown fruit & vegetables when in season and like to support local suppliers & producers by stocking their products.

The Plant House is kept well stocked with lots of great plants to choose from including our own grown plants when available.

The Garden Centre has everything you need to create a beautiful garden - compost, pots, plants, stones, furniture, garden tools and much more!

Pick Your Own - We grow the following for PYO - Strawberries, Raspberries, Plums & Runner Beans.
